Manchester City – Burnley – Review for 16.10.2021

The Premier League champions Manchester City host Burnley at the Etihad in a game from the 8th round of the competition. That’s a really good opportunity for us to present you our football betting preditz this weekend. Let’s get to work!

Manchester City had a tough game before the break as they had to face Liverpool at the Anfield. It was a dramatic fixture which ended with a 2-2 draw. City now have 14 points since the beginning of the campaign and they are third in the standings – just behind Chelsea and Liverpool. Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne scored Man City’s goals against Liverpool. Gabriel Jesus assisted for the first one while De Bruyne saved the point for the visitors with a late equaliser in the 81th minute. Meanwhile Jack Grealish started as a false nine in attack, but in the middle of the second half he got replaced by Raheem Sterling. At the same time Ferran Torres and Riyad Mahrez remained unused subs which was a bit surprising – Guardiola made just one change for the whole 90 minutes. Obviously Manchester City are suffering because of not signing a new striker in the summer. The club really tried to get Tottenham’s Harry Kane, but this operation ended without success. At this moment Guardiola is using Gabriel Jesus mainly as a winger and he just doesn’t have any real “number 9” in the squad. So far City are doing fairly well in the league as they scored 14 goals in seven games, but in the long term the lack of a goalscorer could cause the Cityzens some trouble. If you take a look at the Top 10 of the goalscoring chart in the Premier League right now you won’t find even one Manchester City player there. Pep Guardiola is well-known for making many changes, so his line-up could look very different compared to the one against Liverpool. Players like John Stones, Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres could be in contention for a starting place. While we don’t talk about underestimating the opponent, this match is a good opportunity for Guardiola to rest some players.

Burnley had a very difficult start of the new season in the Prem. Sean Dyche’s team is in the relegation zone right now having won just three points so far. In seven games played since the beginning of the campaign, Burnley are still without a win in the league. Clearly that’s not good at all. Before the break Burnley made their third draw for the season. They had a brilliant opportunity to win when hosting Norwich City at the Turf Moor, but the game ended without a winner – 0-0. You can see why Sean Dyche and the fans were disappointed after the match – for Burnley it was a very good opportunity to record their first win for the 2021/22 campaign. If they continue like this Burnley would have some serious trouble to keep their place in the elite division. Scoring goals is one of Burnley’s biggest problems this season. They have scored just five goals in seven matches played, so obviously their attacking players are underperforming. That’s something Sean Dyche can fix as soon as possible.

These are the football betting tips this weekend for the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Burnley at the Etihad. It’s not a surprise that City are the favorites to take the three points here. Pep Guardiola’s team can’t allow itself to make mistakes here so for the champions it’s a must-win. Meanwhile Burnley are desperate for points here, but that’s not exactly the best chance for them to get any.
