The reigning champions Atletico have some catching up to do. Los Colchoneros are currently 4th in the La Liga standings with 17 points won – three points behind the leader Real Sociedad – their next opponent. It’s important to remind you that they have a game in hand, though – Diego Simeone’s team have played just 8 matches so far in the league. In the previous round Atleti achieved their 5th win for the 2021/22 season. The champions hosted Barcelona before the international break and comfortably won by 2-0. Thomas Lemar and Luis Suarez scored against the Catalans. Simeone’s team had a negative experience in their first game after the break, though – Atletico faced Liverpool in the Champions League and got defeated by 2-3 at the Wanda Metropolitano. Antoine Griezmann scored a brace for the Spanish team, but also got sent off for a dangerous play. It was a disappointing thing to do from Griezmann, but these two goals might secure him a starting spot against Real Sociedad. He seems to be improving his form compared to what we have been watching so far. 

Real Sociedad are having the honour of leading the La Liga standings. The Basques have 20 points won which puts them three points ahead of the second Real Madrid. La Real have lost just one game since the beginning of the season – against Barcelona in the beginning of the season. Since then Imanol Alguacil’s team is unbeaten in the league – six wins and two draws. Last weekend Real Sociedad achieved their 6th win for the season. They hosted Mallorca at the Reale Arena and scored a very late goal in the 90th minute to secure the three points. The 21-years old Julen Lobete scored the winner with his second goal for the season. Lobete used an assist from Zubimendi and put the ball in the net. La Real played the second half with 10 men on the pitch, though. Aihen Munoz got sent of in the end of the first half. This means that Munoz won’t be playing in the next game against Atletico.
